1797 - Junior Physiotherapist - General Rotation

The closing date is 08 March 2026

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for two Band 5 Rotational Physiotherapists to join the Physiotherapy team at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust on a fixed-term contract until 31 March 2027.

These posts offer rotational experience across a range of clinical specialties, providing an excellent foundation for developing clinical skills, confidence, and professional competence. Rotations include musculoskeletal outpatients, orthopaedics, medical and surgical wards (including ITU), and neurology.

The successful candidates will be HCPC registered and hold a degree (or equivalent) in Physiotherapy, with the ability to deliver safe and effective physiotherapy interventions. You will demonstrate developing clinical reasoning skills, effective communication, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care.

You will be supported through structured clinical supervision, in-service training, and professional development opportunities. The role requires strong team-working skills, adaptability across clinical environments, and a proactive approach to learning.

Flexibility of working practice is essential and will include participation in seven-day services, evening and weekend working, and contribution to the Respiratory on-call rota as required.

These roles provide an excellent opportunity to gain broad NHS experience within a supportive and well-established multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will provide safe, effective physiotherapy assessment and treatment to patients across inpatient and outpatient settings, managing a varied caseload appropriate to a Band 5 rotational role. This will include contributing to rehabilitation planning, goal setting, and discharge processes, in collaboration with senior physiotherapists and the wider multidisciplinary team.

You will apply developing clinical reasoning and evidence-based practice to deliver patient-centred care, escalating complex cases appropriately and responding to clinical feedback to support ongoing learning and improvement.

The postholder will engage in a structured preceptorship programme, supported by regular clinical supervision, competency development, and in-service training. You will take responsibility for identifying learning needs, reflecting on practice, and demonstrating progression towards autonomous working.

You will communicate effectively with patients, carers, and colleagues, contributing to collaborative working and continuity of care across services. Accurate documentation and adherence to professional, clinical, and organisational standards will be required at all times.

Flexibility in working practice is essential, including participation in seven-day services, weekend working, and contribution to the Respiratory on-call rota as required.
