Barnsley
Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is looking to recruit a dynamic and motivated
Locum Consultant Paediatrian (Fixed Term, 12 months); to join our friendly and
enthusiastic team. The post requires experience in Acute Paediatrics and
Neonates and ideally are able to commence in post within the next 3 months.
A special interest would be encouraged and worked into the
job plan. These could include epilepsy and neonatology among others.
This
post will support the Paediatric department in Quality Improvement and
standards as per RCPCH guidelines and as part of the Clinical Business Unit
(CBU) along with meeting other CBU requirements within Paediatrics.
Our
Paediatric ward was refurbished in 2021 and we have a newly modernised Childrens
Assessment Unit (CAU) located next to our Emergency Department. The Paediatric
ward currently has 8 beds and CAU 9 beds.
We
have a level 2 Neonatal unit with 14 cots comprising of 2 ITU, 3 HDU and 9
Special care.
This
post is for 12 months and comprises of the following: 1:10 hot ward weeks, 1:10
Neonates ward cover, 1:10 weekend on call, 1:10 on call (Monday to Thursday)
resident until 22:00 hrs and then non-resident and 2 outpatient clinics a week
outside of hot weeks.
Paediatrics is currently supported by
11 Consultants, 1 Specialty Doctor, 3 LED and 10 Tier 2 doctors.
Main duties of the job
- To provide, with Consultant colleagues, general Paediatric and Neonatal services within Barnsley Trust for the prevention, diagnosis and management of illness and the proper functioning of the department
- To undertake General Paediatric Outpatient Clinics as appropriate to the skills/interests of the post holder as agreed at Job Planning
- The post holder undertakes to perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances
- Undertake administrative duties associated with the care of patients (including activity data as required) in line with Trust Policy.
- There is scope for a motivated consultant to take the lead in shaping the future of the service and for special interests to complement the team.
