Job summary
Undertake hearing aid repairs which will include: repair/replacement of hearing aids, basic examination of patients ears for wax etc, modification of patients ear-moulds using electrical grinder, re-tube moulds and instruct patient/carer on the basic care of hearing aids.
Fitting of ear moulds /swim plugs to adult patients.
Take impressions of selected patients ears in order to have an ear mould made which includes performing otoscopic examinations; be able to identify contra-indications for impression taking.
Can programme, fit and assess a range of basic digital hearing aids to selected adult patients (where a replacement/second aid is needed). Communicate factual information in a sensitive way and encourage patients on a programme of use with the hearing aid. Carry out subsequent follow-ups of these patients and make basic fine-tune adjustments to digital aids. All patients will be hearing impaired but some will be more difficult to communicate with and will need reassurance and persuasion in accepting their hearing loss/hearing aid.
Main duties of the job
To undertake telephone follow-up appointments
Daily preparation of test equipment including; basic maintenance /calibration/cleaning and accurate documentation of equipment for own use.
Assist senior staff with non-routine balance testing on adults.
Contributing to discussions on service development and providing comment on new departmental policies.
Organise own day-to-day work tasks and activities.
Referring clinical decisions outside own experience to a qualified audiologist
