Job summary
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a positive and flexible individual to join our busy Trauma & Orthopaedic department within the Surgical Clinical Business Unit (CBU2) as a Clerical Support Worker/Typist. This position is 30 hours, 4 days per week. Flexible working patterns may also be considered.
For this post, you will be educated to O level/GCSE standard (grade C or above) and be able to demonstrate RSA/OCR Level 2 or equivalent audiotyping and text processing.
The successful candidate will be working for the Trauma & Orthopaedic Consultants, Nurses and their teams. It is essential that you have excellent communication skills and previous experience working within a health care administration setting would be advantageous.
You will be required to work independently using your own initiative whilst being able to respond quickly and efficiently to conflicting demands and queries.

Main duties of the job
The post-holder will be required to provide comprehensive typing support, together with leave cover, for colleagues in their remit of supporting Consultants and their teams within the Division.
Using computer software programmes and intermediate keyboard skills, produce accurate and timely documentation, generated by consultant and other medical staff/professionals (including clinic letters, ward notes, results and discharges, medico-legal reports, presentations and urgent ad-hoc letters and reports as and when required). This may take the form of verbal, via audio or handwritten copy.
This work involves physical and mental effort of sitting and concentrating, using visual display equipment for a good amount of working time. Some correspondence will be distressing in nature.
