Job summary
An
exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated full-time general surgeon
to join the general surgery team at Barnsley Hospital on a permanent contract.
This
job provides an opportunity to have structured weekly clinics, theatres,
endoscopy sessions, cancer MDT meetings and on call sessions at Barnsley
Hospital.
At
Barnsley Hospital, you will be joining a forward thinking, friendly and
supportive team of consultants, junior medical staff, allied health
professionals and specialist nurses.
This
post will appeal to an appropriately trained surgeon who has a proven
sub-specialty interest in colorectal surgery.
The appointee will have the enthusiasm to work with colleagues to
develop the service in line with national guidance.

Main duties of the job
The
candidate will join a team of five upper gastro-intestinal surgeons (this post
being the sixth member of the team). The post holder will work as part of the
team to provide surgical treatment for a range of gastro-intestinal conditions
that are treated at Barnsley Hospital.
Core

Weekly
operating theatre lists
1-2
outpatient clinics per week
Weekly
MDT meeting (Wednesday AM)
24
hour on call every 2 weeks (non-resident overnight)
Weekend
on call every 8 weeks
Endoscopy
sessions weekly or every 2 weeks

administration sessions
