The Cardiology Department at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust offers a range of high-quality cardiology and respiratory diagnostic procedures to the residents of Barnsley and surrounding areas as inpatients, outpatients or as direct access referrals from General Practitioners.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, efficient and motivated Cardio-respiratory Physiologist to join our team in our busy cardio-respiratory department at Band 5 level. This post will include further training for progression to band 6 and band 7 level once accreditation is achieved with either The British Society of Echocardiography or The British Heart Rhythm Society.
Candidates must have, or be in year 3 of the BSc Healthcare Science (Cardiac Physiology) Degree, or equivalent.
It is essential that the candidates work well in a team, are committed to providing a high quality efficient and effective service and set high personal standards. You will need to be diligent, enthusiastic, hardworking, with the ability to communicate effectively with staff, patients and members of the public.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be suitably qualified to a high standard in order to carry out duties, as the content of this work has a high direct impact on patient treatment and safety.
To provide a clinical technical service that includes routine ECG, exercise tolerance testing (both doctor and physiologist supervised), 24 hour ambulatory monitoring, angiography, spirometry, pulsoximetry and full lung function testing. Procedures will be carried out on a range of patients where there maybe exposure to distressing or emotional circumstances. Exposure to patient body odours, body fluids and secretions may occur frequently. Training within echocardiography and pacing services to accrediation level.
To analyse and assess test results against acceptability criteria.
To work within agreed professional policies and protocols/procedures without direct supervision.
Daily concentration on tests is a predictable pattern. Prolonged concentration for monitoring patients on extended tests.
Responsible for data entry, text processing and storage of data on Tomcat, MUSE, McKesson Cardiology System and Sentinel systems. Occasional requirement to create spread sheets e.g., medical devices
To Liaise with other healthcare professionals and maintain good relations.
To provide advice when required to other healthcare professionals and the public.
To perform any other duties which are commensurate with the post as may be required from time to time.
