Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Sexual Health Nurse to join our service at Barking Hospital, taking joint responsibility with the Lead Nurse for the clinical and operational leadership of the Sexual Health and contraception department. The successful applicant will demonstrate a strong commitment and passion for providing quality sexual health care

The post holder will be responsible for the direct line management of junior staff within the sexual health service, with delegated responsibility for daily coordination, and the effective operational delivery of the service. This is a key leadership role within the Trust, requiring the ability to balance service management with hands-on clinical practice.

A recognised qualification in Sexual Health and Contraception is essential. Nurse prescribing and Long-Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC) competencies are desirable. Applicants must have a minimum of three years' experience at Band 6, with demonstrable leadership responsibilities and evidence of effective staff management, this includes health roster experience, sickness management as well as staff appraisals.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work as an autonomous practitioner and, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, promote an excellent sexual health service on a day-to-day basis deputising for the Lead Nurse. The post holder will be responsible for management of all clinics within designated locations of the Integrated Sexual Health Service as well as appropriate allocation of staff within. Working alongside the Lead Nurse, responsibilities include direct line management of junior staff, ensuring all KPI's are meeting targets as well as service delivery efficiency.
