Job summary

Barking Havering and Redbridge University Hospital Trust are seeking a band 7 Dietitian with a special interest in Diabetes to join the team for a 12 month fixed term/secondment due to service expansion and the start of the insulin pump service.

We are looking for a self-motivated, team player to come and join the Diabetes team to help improve patient care and outcomes across Trust.

You must have experience in diabetes with a detailed knowledge of diabetes treatment and carbohydrate counting. Ideally you should have some experience in caring for patients on insulin pump, they should also be ready and willing to learn and develop this.

You will be involved in supporting the type 1 diabetes patients and the diabetes insulin pump service. You will be involved in dietitian-led clinic as well as assessing in-patients with diabetes on pumps, helping to review and suggest treatment as well as giving advice and education to patients, relatives and ward staff.

You will need to be available to work across site although initially this role will be based in KGH, you may be required to help cover a 7 day working week.

Although this position is a 12 months fixed-term contract, the actual contract duration will be adjusted to account for the time taken to advertise the post, complete the hiring process, and finalise pre-employment checks. This means the contract will begin when the candidate starts the role and may be slightly shorter than 12 months.

Main duties of the job

You will be involved in supporting and supervising junior dietitians and nurses. Each day brings a new, exciting challenge and there are always learning opportunities to embark on. You will be working with a team who display PRIDE values; Passion, Responsibility, Innovation, Drive and Empowerment.

To provide a specialist, effective, flexible clinical dietetic service to the Diabetes & Endocrine Service at BHRUT. This includes all Diabetes patients within BHRUT (mainly out patients but not exclusively) with a focus on Type 1 Diabetes and those on insulin pumps.

To provide expert guidance and advice to other members of the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) within Endocrine & Diabetes Dept, with a focus on Type 1 Diabetes and those on insulin pumps.

The post holder will undertake research and audit on a regular basis to ensure that practise is evidence based.

To lead service development within own clinical area and contribute to the day to day running and development of the dietetic service through the promotion, adaptation and development of policies, procedures and guidelines using evidence-based practise and current research.

To provide leadership for the dietetic service within Endocrine & Diabetes Department.

To plan, coordinate, deliver and evaluate the dietetic service provided to diabetes patients within the specialist service.
