Job summary
Barking Havering and Redbridge University Hospital Trust are seeking a band 7 Diabetes Specialist Nurse for a 12 month fixed term / secondment due to service expansion to work as part of the Diabetes Nursing team.
We are looking for a self-motivated, team player to come and join the Diabetes Nursing team to help improve patient care and outcomes across Trust.
You must have experience as a diabetes nurse with a detailed knowledge of diabetes treatment. Ideally you should have some experience in caring for patients on insulin pump, you should also be ready and willing to learn and develop this.
You will be involved in supporting the diabetes insulin pump service being involved in nurse-led clinic as well as assessing in-patients with diabetes on pumps, helping to review and suggest treatment as well as giving advice and education to patients, relatives and ward staff.
You will be involved in general diabetes out-patient clinics and expected to run phone clinics for recently discharged patients.
Although this position is a 12 months fixed-term contract, the actual contract duration will be adjusted to account for the time taken to advertise the post, complete the hiring process, and finalise pre-employment checks. This means the contract will begin when the candidate starts the role and may be slightly shorter than 12 months
Main duties of the job
You will be involved in supporting and supervising junior diabetes nurses. You will need to be available to work across site and may be required to help cover a 7 day working week. To work as a member of the multidisciplinary team providing a specialist service to adults with diabetes including those on insulin pumps.
To assist in the provision of a high quality Diabetes service at King George and Queens Hospital.
To provide and maintain a high standard of nursing care whilst acting as a role model, educator and a proficient nurse.
To deliver education to staff, patients and carers.
To provide support and expert knowledge to other healthcare professionals: i.e. trained nursing staff and junior medical staff.
To be involved in the establishment and running of protocol based nurse led clinics for diabetes patients, including assessment and follow up.
