Job summary

Previous applicants need not apply

After the challenges of the last few years, we were the most improved Trust at the end of 2023 for our four-hour performance; we're no longer in special measures; and Matthew Trainer, our Chief Executive, was named the top CEO by the Health Service Journal.

We've embarked on an exciting programme to introduce an Electronic Patient Record (EPR) in June 2025 which will involve changes for almost every member of staff. It's part of a wider digital programme to transform our organisation from being the last in London without an EPR and the least digitised.

Launching an EPR is one of the top priorities for the organisation and its success relies on high quality materials and editorial content to raise awareness, get colleagues involved, and ultimately support a successful go live.

In line with strategy, you'll bring the programme to life, through animation, film, great design, and engaging written content - so you'll need a creative flair, alongside enjoying working in a dynamic, fast-paced, and ever-changing environment.

You'll be working with a variety of different teams and networks, all of whom are passionate about digital - which is exactly what we need you to be!

We would welcome informal enquiries in advance, and ask all internal BHRUT staff to discuss any secondment opportunities with their existing line manager before applying.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for developing the digital content that will bring the programme to life, such as animation, film and design, as well as much of the day-to-day written communications activity on Workplace, our staff engagement platform.

You will lead on developing our internal EPR campaigns, from writing the news stories to developing materials, and managing the promotional aspects.

You'll also create engaging social media posts and support the communications as needed across our website and intranet as and where required.

The demands of this role mean you will sometimes be working in clinical areas and will often need to be on site to perform your duties.

About us

We're an organisation that is getting better and better. We were the most improved Trust in England for A&E performance in 2023/24; we're no longer in special measures; and Matthew Trainer, our Chief Executive, has been named the top CEO by the Health Service Journal. Our improvements are driven by a determination to deliver care we're proud of and that our patients are happy with.

Many of our 8,000 staff - who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and the majority are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. More than 400 of them are on apprenticeship programmes and we're proud to be a London Living Wage employer.

We operate from two main sites - King George Hospital (KGH) in Goodmayes and Queen's Hospital in Romford. We have two of the busiest emergency departments in London - more than 300,000 people visited our A&Es in 2023.

Patients across north east London are benefitting from two new state of the art theatres at KGH and our Community Diagnostic Centres at Barking Community Hospital and St George's Health and Wellbeing Hub will significantly increase the number of scans that can be carried out.

We're looking forward to introducing an electronic patient record next year. This will mean the records of any patient visiting one of the seven hospitals run by BHRUT and Barts Health will be accessible to the clinical teams. It'll make things easier for staff and will be better for patients.
