Are you looking to develop your career in the field of frailty?
We have an exciting opportunity to join the Acute Elders Therapy Team as part of an integrated team of OT's, physios and therapy assistants.
As a Band 6 Occupational Therapist in a large Trust and busy team you will be required to demonstrate leadership skills and be confident to work as an autonomous practitioner with a focus on assessment of elderly patients with complex needs to formulate appropriate discharge plans. You will demonstrate rapid and robust decision-making essential for efficient patient flow. You will be familiar with the assessment of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical, cognitive, and psychological health conditions within elderly specialities in order to develop and deliver treatment and discharge plans. The Team works closely with the larger Multidisciplinary Team to care for acutely unwell frail patients attending the hospital and through collaborative decision making with our colleagues we facilitate safe discharge from hospital. We are based in the Acute Elders Unit covering three 30 bedded wards in Queen's Hospital.
The team is an integrated service with Physiotherapy and you will be supported by Band 7 Occupational Therapists, as well as two Band 8a Clinical Leads. The team is very supportive and there are lots of opportunities to develop both clinical and non-clinical skills.
Main duties of the job
Through a holistic approach, to provide a high standard of Occupational Therapy service, facilitating and maximising patient potential within the service boundaries.
To fulfil a teaching and supervisory role with peers, junior staff and students on placement.
About us
Under the leadership of our Chair Jacqui Smith and Matthew Trainer, our Chief Executive, we provide care for the residents of three of the most diverse London boroughs. More than half of our 7,500 strong workforce are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups and most live in Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge. We also provide healthcare services to people in south west Essex, and specialist neurosciences services to the whole of the county.
Our services include all the major specialties of large acute hospitals, operating from two main sites - King George Hospital in Goodmayes and Queen's Hospital in Romford. We also provide outpatient services at Brentwood Community Hospital, Barking Hospital, Loxford Polyclinic, and Harold Wood Polyclinic. We have two of the busiest emergency departments in London.
As we recover from Covid-19, we're proud to be leading the way nationally in reducing the time our patients wait to get the treatment they need. The pandemic provided the drive forour teams to innovate and change.
We know we have more work to do to improve waiting times for urgent and emergency care, and our performance against the four-hour emergency access standard remains challenged, in comparison to many other London trusts.
We are particularly proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre; Radiotherapy Centre; Hyper Acute Stroke Unit; and dedicated breast care service at King George Hospital. We're also pleased to be part of the NEL Cancer Alliance.
