We have an exciting opportunity for a Sister/Charge Nurse position within our Children's Emergency Departments. We are looking for enthusiastic and hardworking individuals to join our Children's ED team.
You must be able to work well under pressure and have a willingness to learn and develop your own skills. If this is you, we would be delighted to hear from you.
You will be expected to provide the highest standard of evidence based; patient centered care. You will have a passion for education training and development of staff which ultimately impact on the patients.
Most importantly, you will share our PRIDE values and our desire to continue to improve. Our busy Children's Emergency Departments cover two sites - Queens Hospital in Romford and King George's Hospital in Goodmayes.
We deliver a comprehensive range of general Paediatric and Surgical Services to our local communities. These are amongst the busiest Children's EDs in the country.
Our CED team is constantly expanding, to support this you will be learning and developing your knowledge whilst ensuring your skills are kept fully up to date. You will be supported by our Senior Sisters, Matron and members of the wider MDT Team.

Main duties of the job
To provide expert emergency care to children and their families that attend our two children's emergency departments at King George and Queens Hospital. Provide support to the senior sister/charge nurse. Act as nurse in charge of the department when on shift. Support junior staff and participate in management of the team.
- To Support the Matron (s), senior ED nurses and the ED team to ensure high quality patient focused care is delivered within the service to children and families.
- With minimal supervision, to take responsibility for managing a team of nurses in the initiation, delivery and immediate care needs of a group of patients within the children's emergency department.
- To deliver a high standard of care to children with undifferentiated, undiagnosed problems.
- To assist in the development and growth of the emergency department.
- To develop self and others professionally.
About us
We provide care for the residents of three diverse London boroughs. Most of our 7,800 permanent staff live in Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge and the majority are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. We also provide healthcare services to people in south west Essex, and specialist neurosciences services to the whole of the county.
Our services include all the major specialties of large acute hospitals and we operate from two main sites - King George Hospital in Goodmayes and Queen's Hospital in Romford. The Elective Surgical Hub at King George Hospital is one of eight to be accredited as part of a national scheme; the Care Quality Commission has raised the ratings forurgent and emergency careat Queen's and King George hospitals; anddata released by NHS Englandshowed that the Trust was the most improved in 2023 for reducing waits for emergency care.
We are particularly proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre; Radiotherapy Centre; Hyper Acute Stroke Unit; and dedicated breast care service at King George Hospital. We're also part of the North East London Cancer Alliance.
