Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity in Geriatrics & Frailty Division at BHRUT Hospitals for a Band 6 Nurse to join our existing highly motivated team on Holly ward. This ward is based at our King George Hospital Site however there will be an opportunity to rotate in the division if you desire.

Geriatrics & Frailty Division is currently going through a process of change to ensure we meet the on-going needs of the older adult and to provide an excellent standard of care every time. This is an ideal opportunity for you to bring your experience and vision to help us to deliver these changes.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Nurse with a passion for delivering high quality care in partnership with patients and their relatives putting the patients at the centre of our PRIDE values.

You will have a special interest in Medicines Management, End of life Care, and Dementia and will be willing to undertake lead nurse responsibility for this area of nursing and maintaining high standard of care.

You will have a good understanding of safe medicines management, BHRUT's improvement plans in relation to medicines management, dementia strategy and CQC standards to ensure safe delivery of care. You will be responsible for ensuring that the ward is up to date with national and local initiatives to identify & prevent poor medicines management, dementia Strategy standard.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide support to the Senior Sister in effectively leading and managing the ward
  • Participate in all ward activities as an effective team member, supporting the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse taking the responsibility for the leadership of a team of staff.
  • To assess care needs, and the development, implementation and evaluation of care, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
  • To teach and supervise qualified and unqualified staff, and act as a role model to junior staff and undertaking performance management
  • To take responsibility and accountability for a group of patients and the whole ward for the duration of the shift.
  • To provide holistic nursing care to clients within the ward, utilising all resources to provide excellence in practice.
  • To develop personally & professionally as an effective member of the multidisciplinary team and undertake appraisal annually.
  • To provide teaching and mentorship to junior colleagues.
  • To contribute to the maintenance of a safe environment.
  • Report any potential / actual problems to line manager and/or Matron when appropriate.
  • Act as a link nurse when required.

About us

We provide care for the residents of three diverse London boroughs. Most of our 7,800 permanent staff live in Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge and the majority are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. We also provide healthcare services to people in south west Essex, and specialist neurosciences services to the whole of the county.

Our services include all the major specialties of large acute hospitals and we operate from two main sites - King George Hospital in Goodmayes and Queen's Hospital in Romford. We also provide outpatient services at Brentwood Community Hospital, Barking Community Hospital, Loxford Polyclinic, and Harold Wood Polyclinic.

The Elective Surgical Hub at King George Hospital is one of eight to be accredited as part of a national scheme; the Care Quality Commission has raised the ratings for urgent and emergency care at Queen's and King George hospitals; and data released by NHS England showed that the Trust was the most improved in 2023 for reducing waits for emergency care.

We are particularly proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre; Radiotherapy Centre; Hyper Acute Stroke Unit; and dedicated breast care service at King George Hospital. We're also part of the North East London Cancer Alliance.
