Job summary

We are delighted to announce an exciting opportunity for an experienced Consultant Neurosurgeon with an interest in Complex Spine to join the Neurosurgery team based at Queen's Hospital.

Applicants must have full GMC registration and be on the Specialist Register or be eligible for inclusion within six months of the interview date.

Our Trust is working in collaboration with Barts Health NHS Trust which will provide a fantastic opportunity for multi-disciplinary cross site working for the ideal candidate.

The Trust is in an excellent location, close to Central London and will situated in the South East. As well as all the advantages of being close to the city, the Trust has on-site nursery facilities at Queen's and King George Hospital sites.

Main duties of the job

We are also investing significantly in our Neuroscience services and have recently purchased the BrainLab cranial and spinal systems plus intra-operative live CT scanning in the operating theatre. This is an ideal environment for a skilled and knowledgeable complex spinal surgeon and we look forward to meeting you.

BHRUT is one of the largest Associate Teaching Hospitals, providing acute care for over 700,000 people from across 2 main sites - Queen's and King George Hospitals, as well as peripheral sites at Barking, Dagenham and Brentwood. We have a strong commitment to teaching trainees and developing the service's potential as a hub for complex spine. We are a major Neuroscience Centre and are undergoing significant further development in conjunction with the NEL elective hub.

About us

Our Trust hosts the Regional Neurosciences Centre for East of England (Essex) covering a population of 2.4million in both Outer North East London and Essex. The Department comprises of fourteen highly dedicated Neurosurgeons and provides a surgical service for:

Routine & Complex Spine

Skull base surgery including pituitary, neuro-oncology and Deep Brain Stimulation

Neuro-vascular services

Our surgeons operate on emergency, urgent and routine cases within dedicated Neurosurgery theatres supported by highly trained and dedicated support staff. The department has a dedicated Neurosurgical ward within the Neuroscience specialty as well as a twelve bedded Neuro Intensive Care Unit supported by Consultant Neuro-Intensivists

The service is further supported by a fully established junior doctor team and Clinical Nurse Specialists who provide expertise in the following:

Neuro-oncology

Neuro-vascular

Spinal cases

Head injury/ trauma

The department offers urgent and routine outpatient services and accepts referrals from the regional areas as well as the local population. Outpatient clinics take place at Queen's and King George Hospitals with a small service provided at Brentwood Community Hospital.
