Job summary
We are delighted to offer an excellent opportunity for a compassionate and dynamic nurse for the role of ward sister/charge nurse to support the Senior Sister and the ward.
Gardenia ward is a 25 bedded specialist medicine beds specialising in Cardiology and Gastroenterology. You will be expected to care for acutely unwell adults; patients step down from ITU and general medical patients. We are looking for a self motivated individual with proven skills to work as part of a team to provide a high standard of nursing. You will need to have good communication skills, be motivated with a willingness to learn and commitment to continuing education and professional development. You will be required to have a flexible approach to working as the shift pattern will be long days and nights. Proven experience as band 6 or significant experience as senior band 5 position within an acute setting. You will be encouraged to develop your clinical and leadership skills with particular focus on the management of acutely unwell patients, active involvement in discharge planning, ward management and will be expected to lead in an area of care as a link nurse. The ward has recently been awarded a Bronze for the ward accreditation and you will be expected to play an active role in working towards our objective to achieve a silver award in the next ward accreditation review
Main duties of the job
- o To provide support to the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse in effectively leading and managing the wardo Participate in all ward activities as an effective team member, supporting the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse taking the responsibility for the leadership of a team of staff.o To assess care needs, and the development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.o To teach and supervise qualified and unqualified staff, and act as a role model to junior staff, undertaking performance management is required.o To take responsibility and accountability for a group of patients and the whole ward for the duration of the shift.o To provide holistic nursing care to clients within Gardenia ward, including the Planned investigations utilising all resources to provide excellence in practice.o To develop personally & professionally as an effective member of the multidisciplinary team and undertake appraisal annually.o To act as a role model to junior colleagues.o To provide teaching and mentorship to junior colleagues.o To contribute to the maintenance of a safe environment.o Reports any potential / actual problems to line manager and/or Matron when appropriate.o Participate in education audit of the ward-learning environment in conjunction with the Senior Sister/ Charge Nurse and Link Tutor.o Participate in the assessment of all learners.

We are particularly proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre; Radiotherapy Centre; Hyper Acute Stroke Unit; and dedicated breast care service at King George Hospital. We're also pleased to be part of the NEL Cancer Alliance.
