Job summary
This post requires a skilled, experienced inpatient physiotherapist who wants to specialise in Critical Care, Respiratory & Surgery and to further develop their management and leadership skills within a large teaching hospital. Our team pride themselves in providing high quality care.
This post is rotational within critical care (inc neuro-ITU), surgery, vascular (inc acute amputees), and respiratory, and will potentially involve cross-site working at our King George hospital site. In addition to this you may be required to provide relief cover to paediatrics. You must have past experience in managing critically unwell patients, respiratory patients and surgical patients.
The successful applicant must have excellent communication skills, be a good team player and be able to work under reasonable pressure within the MDT. You must also be keen to review current practices, and have the ability to help influence and promote change that will lead to advancement in patient care in line with the Trust's aims and vision. You will have good networking skills and be familiar with current legislations and other relevant factors affecting change in the NHS.
You will work closely with highly specialised team-members and you will be expected to deputise in the absence of more senior leadership. You will be expected to mentor and supervise less experienced staff, including students on placement. You will also play a vital part in the maintenance of staff competencies, teaching and CPD.
Main duties of the job
To perform advanced holistic physiotherapeutic assessment of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions, to provide a clinical diagnosis and to develop and deliver individualised treatment plan.
To hold responsibility for own case load and be responsible for a defined area or a particular patient type, working without direct supervision. Access to advice and support from a Senior Physiotherapist is available as required. Supervision takes the form of regular informal/formal discussion and teaching, clinical reasoning sessions and peer review.
To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.
Supervise, educate and assess the performance of less experienced Physiotherapists and Assistants. This would be to a graduate standard and involve working with the Senior Physiotherapist to ensure the standards of practice of the department are met.
Supervise, educate and assess the performance of Student Physiotherapists. This will involve working with the Senior Physiotherapist and universities to ensure competencies are met.
Undertake evidence-based departmental audit and research projects, in association with Senior Physiotherapists, to further own and teams clinical practice within above speciality. Make recommendations to clinical lead/manager of service for changes to practice by the team.
