Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (BHRUT) is a large provider of acute services, serving a population of over 750,000 in outer North East London.
The trust operates from two sites; Queen's Hospital and King George Hospital. There are approximately 900 beds across both sites. The hospital includes a hyper acute stroke unit (HASU), a large birthing centre, a renal dialysis unit and specialist neuroscience centre. The Emergency Department (ED) treats over 150,000 walk-in and ambulance emergencies each year.
We are looking for someone who will be a highly visible role model providing professional and clinical leadership to a team of experienced and junior nurses. The role requires an individual who is consistently supportive to promote exceptional teamwork and who will be able to nurture a positive culture. You will posess excellent communication skills, and an ability to work as a team member whilst retaining a leadership role.
You will bring with you a proven track record of managing people, and have experience in similar clinical environments.You will be someone who has a positive outlook, strong leadership and high standards and the ability to inspire your teams setting a clear and compelling vision.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be an integral member of the Anaesthetic Division and provide visible nursing leadership within the critical care services.
The post holder will deputise for the Lead Nurse for critical care as required.
The post holder will utilise clinical expertise, leadership skills, education and management to ensure a seamless service for patients, carers and staff, providing advice and support.
The post holder will have accountability to ensure staffing and the correct skill mix is maintained.

Under the leadership of our Chair Jacqui Smith and Matthew Trainer, our Chief Executive, we provide care for the residents of three of the most diverse London boroughs. More than half of our 7,500 strong workforce are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups and most live in Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge. We also provide healthcare services to people in south west Essex, and specialist neurosciences services to the whole of the county.
Our services include all the major specialties of large acute hospitals, operating from two main sites - King George Hospital in Goodmayes and Queen's Hospital in Romford. We also provide outpatient services at Brentwood Community Hospital, Barking Hospital, Loxford Polyclinic, and Harold Wood Polyclinic. We have two of the busiest emergency departments in London.
As we recover from Covid-19, we're proud to be leading the way nationally in reducing the time our patients wait to get the treatment they need. The pandemic provided the drive forour teams to innovate and change.
We know we have more work to do to improve waiting times for urgent and emergency care, and our performance against the four-hour emergency access standard remains challenged, in comparison to many other London trusts.
We are particularly proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre; Radiotherapy Centre; Hyper Acute Stroke Unit; and dedicated breast care service at King George Hospital. We're also pleased to be part of the NEL Cancer Alliance.
