Main duties of the job

Job responsibilities

This post is for a qualified nurse who has robust clinical knowledge and who wants a flexible and rewarding role. The post holder will be responsible for the safe delivery of individualised care to patients while working as part of a Multi-disciplinary Team. They should be able to assist with education and supervision of learners. Be able to supervise and co-ordinate other staff as appropriate. Take charge of the ward or department in the absence of the person who has continuing responsibility. The post holder must have an adaptable and proactive approach to work and adhere to the PRIDE values of the Trust.

Establish good communication skills with all team members and in particular ensure that courtesy and politeness is shown to the patients at all times. Ensure patients are communicated with in a non-prejudicial way and the patients are fully involved in the discussions held about them. Be prepared to act in the interest of the patient at all times.

To promote a professional image at all times ensuring all patients are afforded privacy and dignity regardless of race or gender but with sensitivity towards their cultural need.

To take all measures to ensure the safety of patients. To report all accidents/incidents promptly to the Sister/Charge Nurse (or Night Sister/Charge Nurse), also completing the relevant form correctly.

To participate in the development of the role of the nurse to achieve progressive standards of care and personal development of the nurse.

To participate in clinical governance programmes that enhances the service improvements of the area.

To maintain personal professional status by ensuring that the requirements set by the NMC for periodic registration to maintain personal professional licence are complied with.

To participate in professional development programmes and ensure skills and competencies are maintained.

To participate in the mentorship and teaching of student nurses and HCAs.
