In collaboration with Barts Health's Physicians Response Unit, BHRUT is pleased advertise these innovate new post in our Emergency Medicine Departments, the Physicians Response Unit and developing our Community Emergency Medicine provision.
We are looking for a Consultant in Emergency Medicine with experience in pre-hospital care / Community Emergency Medicine with a passion for innovation.
The post is designed to work with our Urgent and Emergency Community Care providers, Same Day Emergency Care Units, developing virtual wards and our Urgent and Emergency Care Programme to develop high quality integrated Emergency Care Pathways. Allowing patients to receive high quality Emergency Care without the need for attending an Emergency Department or the need for a hospital admission.

Main duties of the job
- Clinical Care: Undertake direct clinical care of undifferentiated patients presenting to the Emergency Departments.
- Team Leader: Act as Team leader co-ordinating the acute resuscitation or patients presenting to the resuscitation room with major trauma, cardiac arrest, and major medical emergencies.
- Area Lead: Manage clinical areas of the department over-seeing the management of all patients in that area and supporting the medical and nursing team members working in that area.
Every Consultant will work in all areas of the department including RAFTing, Resus, Majors, Paediatric Majors, SDEC (Same Day Emergency Care), REACH, and Virtual SDEC.
- Emergency Physician in Charge: Working in collaboration with the Nurse in charge to ensure the proper running of the Emergency Department, ensure high standards of clinical care, patient safety and patient experience are maintained throughout the department. Ensure patient care is delivered in line with National Key Performance Indicators for Emergency Care.
- Remote advice and guidance: The night consultant resident at Queens Hospital will provide advice and guidance to the Senior Clinician in Charge at King George Hospital
- Work with our community Emergency Medicine providers to develop and deliver Emergency Care Pathways.
- Work with the Regional Community Emergency Medicine Leads to help develop the regional Community Acute and Emergency Care provision.
- Supervise and Mentor Community Emergency Medicine Clinical Fellows.

We know we have more work to do to improve waiting times for urgent and emergency care, and our performance against the four-hour emergency access standard remains challenged, in comparison to many other London trusts.
We are particularly proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre; Radiotherapy Centre; Hyper Acute Stroke Unit; and dedicated breast care service at King George Hospital. We're also pleased to be part of the NEL Cancer Alliance.
