Job summary

The Haematology and Oncology outpatient department at Queens Hospital BHRUT requires an enthusiastic, highly motivated full time Band 6 Senior staff nurse who has experience in administering Systemic anti-cancer treatment (SACT). This role will include monitoring of patients blood results receiving oral SACT treatment as an outpatient eg: Palbociclib/Vinorelbine . The post holder will also be required to work with the Senior sister assisting in innovation and development within SACT including confirming patients treatments with pharmacy,pre SACT counselling and other initiatives. This role is in close conjunction with Sunflower Suite Senior sister to develop and deliver SACT treatment and the expectation is a close working relationship with shared goals. The Haem/Onc OPD is operational Monday-Friday inclusive 08.30-18.00,the successful post holder would be expected to work hours to cover this service.BHRUT is a large cross-site organisation encompassing Queens hospital in Romford and King George hospital in Ilford. The department has patients receiving treatment/outpatient reviews for both malignant and non-malignant oncology and haematological conditions. The successful post holder will need to demonstrate PRIDE behaviours and values and assist in achieving the Trusts objectives.

Main duties of the job

  • To deliver a high standard of care to Haematology and Oncology patients who attend the Haematology/Oncology Outpatient department.
  • To be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for patients undergoing Radiotherapy and Systemic anti-cancer treatment ( SACT ) who attend the Haematology/Oncology Outpatient department.
  • To administer supportive care and medication within scope of competence.
  • To act as a resource and liaison for patients who receive SACT pre treatment counselling .
  • To carry out other duties and training as deemed necessary by the wider multidisciplinary teams in discussion with the post holder to ensure adequate provision of service.
  • Demonstrate pride in their work and enthusiasm for quality of care.
  • To administer SACT, confirm SACT treatments co-ordinate the day including facilitating breaks .
