The Walton Centre for Neurology and Neurosurgery NHS Foundation Trust is a world renowned centre of excellence in neurological care and pain management with a strong emphasis on education, research and development.

Our therapy service offers excellent development opportunities for ambitious Physiotherapists who strive for professional excellence and as a result we need a suitably experienced Physiotherapist who is able to demonstrate a range of skills to join our team.

Main duties of the job

Working within a multi professional team you will gain excellent specialist experience from a range of rotations offered on a 9 monthly basis.

Option rotations include neurology and neurosurgery inpatients; critical care and respiratory; complex rehabilitation; trauma and; neurology out-patients/specialist clinics.

As an effective team player you will have excellent organisational skills with an interest in audit and research and a commitment to CPD.

As part of your role you will provide training and supervision to junior staff, undergraduate students and other relevant health professionals.

You will be expected to participate in evening and weekend working including 7 day rotas according to the requirements of the service.

To assist Senior Therapy staff in service development and the provision of a quality service.

To take responsibility where appropriate, for junior therapy staff and students and delegate duties as necessary, providing appropriate level of support at all times.

Under the direction of supervisor and other team members assist with specified areas of service provision as appropriate

Key responsibilities

Establish and manage a clinical caseload as appropriate to the service

To work collaboratively with other clinicians, including medical and nursing staff to influence service development and ensure quality of care is delivered

To provide clinical education and training to other health care professionals

Influence research and professional development for self and others Where appropriate participate in clinical rotations across all areas of the Walton Centre Therapy service as directed by Therapy Managers.

Clinical Responsibilities

To undertake physiotherapy assessment, clinically diagnose and implement agreed treatment plans if appropriate including the routine treatment of complex patients in a manner that respects peoples privacy, dignity and individuality.

To supervise and advise Junior Physiotherapy Staff and Student Physiotherapists on the management of clinically demanding patients.

To rotate, where, appropriate within the band 6 rotation programme.

To take part in 7 day working rotas, weekend working and late shifts where appropriate.

To be a member of the multidisciplinary team and actively participate in M.D.T. meetings

To facilitate effective internal and external two-way communication with patients, carers and all other Health and Social Care Professionals regarding all aspects of patient care.

To provide and receive complex information that requires empathy and reassurance, communicating where there may be barriers to understanding.

To record and report findings appropriately following the standard procedures used by the department including the use of any relevant electronic recording systems to maintain high levels of written/verbal communication.

To share skills and knowledge with other disciplines and patient/carers.

To liaise with hospital/community based staff as appropriate to ensure continuity of treatment and provision of equipment/adaptations

Clinical Governance

Staff must attend all mandatory training as specified in the Corporate Induction and Mandatory Training Policy

Undertake appropriate mandatory training in infection control and comply with all Trust Infection Control policies relevant to the post, particularly with regard to the hand hygiene policy

To ensure compliance to all Trust Risk Management, Research Governance and Infection Control Policies and Procedures and abide by the Standards for Better Health and essential standards of safety and quality

Be aware of and comply with their data protection and confidentiality obligations under Law and through Trust Policy

Undertake appropriate Information Governance mandatory training set out in the Corporate Induction and Mandatory Training Policy
