An exciting opportunity has arisen on Jefferson Ward to recruit a Staff Nurse to work within the our busy Neuro-sciences Day surgery and same Day admission unit. This will also include a rotation to the new Sherrington Day Unit/RANA Clinic. We are looking for a registered nurse preferably with relevant experience in the clinical setting who is enthusiastic, motivated and will be part of the team in providing safe and effective care for our patients. However, newly qualified nurses will be considered .
Our current opening hours are from 7am - 7pm Monday to Friday. These hours will be revisited in the near future and are subject to change to accommodate the inclusion of same day discharge. Main duties of the job
To participate in team nursing and when appropriate, organise the patients care for that team in the team leaders absence.
Report to medical staff on the condition of patients, receive medical instructions and implement as necessary.
Contribute to the smooth flow of patients through the department by ensuring adequate planning and preparation for case load
Ensure that every precaution is taken to safeguard patients property and valuables.
Participate in multi-disciplinary approach to the rehabilitation of patients with neurological disorders.
Participate in the training of other nursing staff, including basic and post basic learners in consultation with Sister/Charge Nurse wherever applicable.
Control and co-ordinate activities of the ward team in the absence of Ward Sister/Charge Nurse.
Be aware of, and adhere to, all the Trust policies and procedures and standards of care.
Maintain high standards of nursing care and review these standards with the Ward Manager.
Participate as a named nurse for a small group of patients.
Assist more junior staff to understand their role in the unit team.
Be aware of the economic use of ward equipment and stores.
Ensure adequate security, administration, proper use and recording of dangerous drugs in accordance with hospital policy.
Ensure clinical skills are maintained to meet the needs of the department eg cannulation, IV infusion administration, venipuncture and chemotherapy administration
