Have an interest in the neurosciences, but not sure if you have the skills and knowledge to work at The Walton Centre? This post is the perfect opportunity to prove that you do, with the support of a warm and enthusiastic team of experienced therapists!
An in-depth knowledge of neurosciences is not essential, as you will be supported to acquire these skills, as part of this Band 6 post, on our neurological and neurosurgical acute inpatient wards. This post would be ideally suited to an OT with experience within general acute inpatient wards and/or a stroke unit, or a therapist working within a community ESD or neuro therapy team, looking to return or transition to inpatient work. Experienced Band 5 OTs looking for career progression or existing Band 6 OTs looking towards greater specialism are all welcome applicants.
As part of your role, you will have the opportunity to provide training and supervision to junior staff and students. Regular supervision and training opportunities are integral to the post to ensure you have the opportunity to develop fully into the role.
The working hours are Monday to Friday, 8am 4pm. Currently there are no weekend working requirements and conversations regarding flexible working are welcomed.

Clinical Responsibilities
To undertake complex occupational therapy assessment and intervention for the ongoing treatment and rehabilitation of patients living with a range of neurological disorders and trauma injuries, adjusting the treatment pathway / approach accordingly and in a manner which respects peoples privacy, dignity and individuality
To implement and evaluate treatment and outcomes
To facilitate effective internal and external two-way communication with patients cares and all other Health and Social Care Professionals regarding all aspects of patient care.
To provide and receive complex information that requires empathy and reassurance, communicating where there may be barriers to understanding.
To develop awareness and or skills within the other related services according to service needs and future development
To record and report findings appropriately following the standard procedures used by the department including the use of any relevant electronic recording systems to maintain high levels of written/verbal communication.
To share skills and knowledge with other disciplines and patient/cares.
To liaise with hospital/community based staff as appropriate to ensure continuity of treatment and provision of equipment/adaptations
To maintain own awareness and regularly review information and resources regarding community services and agencies to compliment OT practice, advising and referring patients as appropriate

Clinical Governance

To ensure that any equipment, furniture or building in need of repair is reported to the correct authority
To comply with the College of Occupational Therapy standards and code of professional conduct. To comply with and adhere to the Health Care Professions Council ( HCPC) requirements for professional practice and registration
To participate in research and clinical audit projects within both the neurology outpatient service and the wider therapy department.
To operate systems of supervision/appraisal for Band 5 and OT support staff as required
