Job summary

The Walton Centre for Neurology and Neurosurgery NHS Foundation Trust is a world renowned centre of excellence in the care of patients with brain related conditions or after brain related surgery.

An exciting opportunity is available for highly motivated, responsible and caring individual to join the Walton Centre's Rehabiliatation Therapy Service. The hyper acute rehab unit, specialises in providing early supportive rehabilitation for patients who require a high level of nursing and medical intervention. It is part of the Cheshire and Merseyside Rehabilitation Network (CMRN), providing specialist assessment, treatment and rehabilitation.

As a Therapy Assistant you will work alongside qualified physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech and language therapists as part of the hyper acute rehabilitation team, with patients who have complex rehabilitation needs.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate relevant clinical experience of working within a health care setting and have evidence of personal development equivalent to NVQ level 2 or 3 in health care or social care. The supporting information of the application must demonstrate an understanding of rehabilitation and the role of the therapy assistant to be considered for short-listing.

Main duties of the job

To assist registered therapists in their administrative duties for the functioning of the ward.

To take responsibility for own delegated clinical caseload.

To undertake assessment-related activities and treatment/intervention as required or as directed by registered occupational therapist.

To establish a therapeutic relationship with patients and, under the direction of the therapist, carry out assessment-related activities and treatments.

To report back to supervising staff regarding the individual needs/abilities of patients and carers.

To accept responsibility for delegated workload and to manage own time effectively.

To liaise with members of the multi-disciplinary team and external agencies to ensure the effective management of patients care.

You will receive a comprehensive training programme and regular support, supervision and appraisals.

To monitor and maintain equipment stocks and supplies under direction of senior therapists

To comply with Health and Safety Policies of the Trust including undertaking all mandatory training as directed by WCNN training & development department and in line with Trust policy necessary to fulfil duties of the post

To comply with departmental / organisational procedures and guidelines.

To ensure that any furniture, equipment or building in need of repair is reported to the correct authority as necessary.

To comply with the Data Protection Act and Caldicott recommendations.

To maintain accurate documentation in line with local policies and procedures.

Training and Development

To actively participate in the in-service training programme.

To attend relevant training courses and complete regular appraisals and to maintain an up to date Personal Development Plan.
