Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Pain Services Team for a Junior Clinical Fellow in Pain Medicine, this is a 6 month fixed term post , full time hours. The successful candidate will be highly motivated and enthusiastic, and will be joining a very busy, friendly team.
Main duties of the job
The clinical fellow will be attached to all Pain Medicine consultants and will work with the Consultants in out-patients and theatre, and when appropriately experienced would at times deputise for the consultants when required. There may be a need to administer general anaesthesia for chronic pain procedures such as neuromodulation implants, cordotomy and facial pain procedures. The post holder will also provide support to the pain consultants in relation to in-patients admissions and peri-procedure management of chronic pain patients, and assessment of inpatient referrals. This post could have a low intensity non-resident on-call commitment.

Job responsibilities
This role will enable a core/F3 equivalent level doctor to gain experience as part of our Pain Medicine team.

The role will be split between ward and out patients. Out of hours duties will be agreed on discussion with the successful candidate.
The post holder will mainly work in Pain Medicine. There may also be opportunities to gain experience in other areas according to the development needs of the appointee.
There will be the opportunity to participate in teaching, audit, guideline development and service improvement projects.
We will also provide support to help you develop a portfolio in line with Royal College recommendations for those who want to evidence their role and training in this way.
A clinical supervisor will be allocated and will provide support for the duration of the placement.
The minimum skill requirement is completion of foundation competencies, and prior experience working on acute take.
JOB CONTENT:
This post will support delivery of
Proactive patient management to achieve timely and high-quality assessment and care.
Timely investigations and interventions managed in accordance with departmental protocols and guidelines.
Care of patients on the wards and in out-patient clinics.
Referral of patients to other specialties and services as required.
Provision of out of hours cover.
Involvement in multi-disciplinary teams and meetings.
Participation in teaching and training for junior doctors and medical students, including involvement in their educational assessments, and education of other health care professionals.
Active involvement in audit and the development of departmental services and strategies.

The post holder will work closely with the pain consultants, training registrars and junior doctors, and specialist pain nurses.

The Walton Centre opened Sid Watkins building in 2015. This is a purpose- built three-storey building used to rehabilitate brain and spinal injury sufferers, dementia patients and stroke victims. The Sid Watkins Building also includes out-patient facilities, temporary accommodation for patients families, training suites and offices.
An academic building, the Clinical Science and Education Centre, is situated on the same site. This unit houses the Pain Research Institute, which undertakes research into human pain, and the research is fully integrated into the clinical work of the Walton Pain Service.
