Job summary
o To participate in team nursing and when appropriate, organise the patients
care for that team in the team leader's absence.
o Report to medical staff on the condition of patients, receive medical instructions and implement as necessary.
o Ensure that every precaution is taken to safeguard patient's property and valuables.
o Participate in multi-disciplinary approach to the rehabilitation of patients with neurological disorders.
Main duties of the job
o Participate in the training of other nursing staff, including basic and post basic learners in consultation with Sister/Charge Nurse wherever applicable.
o Control and co-ordinate activities of the ward team in the absence of Ward Sister/Charge Nurse.
o Be aware of, and adhere to, all the Trust policies and procedures and standards of care.
o Maintain high standards of nursing care and review these standards with the Ward Manager.
o Participate as a named nurse for a small group of patients.
o Assist subordinate staff to understand their role in the unit team.
o Be aware of the economic use of ward equipment and stores.
o Ensure adequate security, administration, proper use and recording of dangerous drugs in accordance with hospital policy.
o Ensure up to date knowledge of new equipment being used.
o Furthering own professional development by ensuring that own clinical and professional knowledge is widened and enriched by attending study days and seminars as arranged through the in-service training officers.
o Ensure confidentiality at all times. The post holder's attention is drawn to the Data Protection Act 1984.
o Ensure that the Control of Infection Guidelines are adhered to at all times.
