Job summary
- To contribute effectively to the delivery of an efficient and responsive Neuroradiology service
- To supervise the day to day running of CT scanning service
- To monitor stock in CT scanning service
- To oversee and be responsible for the training and supervision of Neuroradiograhers within CT scanning
- To take a leading role in encouraging, developing and maintaining a high quality, efficient imaging service
- To provide highly developed specialist knowledge of CT Imaging procedures
- Manipulation of expensive / complex equipment, for precise positioning
- To be available to advise the Radiographers on clinical evaluation of images and technical support at all times.
- Liaise with equipment companies and PAC re-equipment breakdowns and rescheduling of patients
- To manage effectively the emergency neuroradiographic workload for the trust whilst on call.
- To ensure that all patient details are correct and recorded on the departments radiology systems and amend as appropriate. To keep accurate and legible written and or electronic records of all examinations undertaken.
- To demonstrate a commitment to continued professional development.
- To comply with and enforce national regulations and guidelines. Ionising Radiation Regulations 1999, Ionising Radiation (for Medical Exposure) Regulations 2000, and the Local Rules for Radiation Protection and Magnetic Resonance Safety.
- To deputise for Radiology Manager as required.
- Commitment to out of hours / on-call duties.
Main duties of the job
To be able to work unsupervised.
To be able to rotate through other specialities within the Neuroradiology
To ensure the patient is adequately informed about the examination and has agreed to exposure to ionising radiation prior to the examination starting.
To monitor and control stock levels of consumables used in CT scanning
To maintain a high level of skill and concentration whilst performing complex CT procedures
To manipulate exposure factors and image recording parameters to optimal effect
To be able to distinguish between normal and abnormal appearances on images. To be able to make reasoned decisions to initiate, continue or modify the use of techniques or procedures, and record the decisions and reasoning appropriately
To ensure all imaging has the correct patient details before they are sent for reporting and archiving
To gain consent from the patient for the administration of contrast media and assess their suitability for intravenous contrast media injection by checking for relevant contraindications
To perform intravenous injections of contrast media and ensure appropriate aftercare of patients. To recognise allergic reactions and summon medical assistance as required

- Diploma of the College of Radiographers (DCR) or BSc Radiography
- HCPC registered.
- Post graduate qualification Imaging qualifications/ or equivalent experience

- Post Graduate Certificate in CT Imaging
Knowledge & Experience
Essential
- 5 Years radiographic experience across a wide range of modalities at a senior level and at least 3 years experience of Neuro - CT procedures.
- Able to demonstrate good radiographic technical knowledge and continue to develop it.
- Extensive experience with CT scanners and techniques
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patients, staff, visitors and suppliers
- Ability to work unsupervised.
- Demonstrate good problem solving skills particularly with regard to troubleshooting for equipment.
- To be responsible for the training of student radiographers, neuroradiographers and other staff/visitors.
- Must be able to work to short deadlines and have a flexible approach to workload
- To be able to wear radiation protective clothing (5mm lead equivalent) and monitoring devices
- Have sufficient manual dexterity to operate a QWERTY keyboard and navigate mouse driven technology.
- Be able to operate manual handling aids as provided by the Department (Hoists, slide boards/sheets)
- To be able to operate and move a full range of radiographic equipment to include mobile intensifiers, ceiling suspended x-ray tubes and mobile x -ray machines
