Job summary

To support the Head of Financial Management in the provision of a professional and comprehensive Financial Management service to the Trust.

To lead on the provision of comprehensive financial advice to the divisional management teams, and contribute to the business planning process and service developments.

The focus within this role is to use information (financial and non-financial) to make recommendations for improvements to the efficiency and effectiveness of the divisional teams. Although the role is to provide financial expertise within a specific division, the Head of Finance for Neurology will also work across the Trust to deliver specific objectives. Skills in presentation of ideas and influencing others will be a key requirement.

The post holder must have demonstrable evidence and ability to lead independently extremely complex business cases and financial planning exercises.

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that all month end processes are completed for their division, including formal review of the monthly financial performance and year end forecast, and for presenting financial information at monthly performance reviews with the Divisional Management Teams.

The post holder will support the Head of Financial Management with month end reporting, internally to the executive team, externally to NHS Improvement and with the preparation of the year end statutory accounts.

Main duties of the job

1. Contribute to the expenditure element of the annual budget setting exercise ensuring it is completed within the agreed timescales: leading the effective, timely and accurate completion of budget setting including sign-off and reconciliation and ensuring appropriate working papers are maintained to meet audit requirements.

2. Contribute to the production of accurate and timely monthly reporting including a verified forecast outturn position agreed by senior managers within the Trust.

3. Contribute to the delivery against short and medium term objectives and develop robust KPIs for the management accounting service. This includes leading the team to ensure that services are delivered to maximise the cost effectiveness of resources as well as effectively responding to the needs of the Trust.

4. Deliver day to day financial services working together with staff from all relevant disciplines to ensure an integrated high quality service is provided to support decision making.

5. Provide expert accounting and business knowledge, analytical support and clear presentation of complex financial and business information.

6. Develop, implement and maintain robust systems in line with Standing Financial Instructions and professional standards.

7. Support the budget managers in the development of budgets and any business plans.
