Liverpool Women's Hospital is delighted to be able to continue it's successful Research Fellow in Urogynaecology post. This post is now in it's 6th year and has seen great success with one candidate being appointed to a subspecialist post in Urogynaecology.
The post is designed to offer research training for individuals planning a career as a subspecialist in Urogynaecology. As such, the post will provide the training needed to meet the research component of subspecialty training as per RCOG curriculum.
The post is fixed term for a period of 12 months (with a possible extension to 2 years) with a start date of August 2025 in line with the national O&G rotation. If necessary, the successful candidate will be expected to apply for out of programme training for research with HEE.
The post will be supervised by Miss Gillian Fowler, Consultant Urogynaecologist, together with Mr Andrew Sharp, Senior Lecturer. It will be expected that the successful candidate will submit at least one manuscript for publication (as per RCOG subspecialty training programme) together with completion of the RCOG Advanced Professional Module in Research.
Main duties of the job
The urogynaecology research fellow will join a team of urogynaecology surgeons, specialist nurses and our urogynaecology link midwife. The department has a long history in urogynaecology research, particularly focused on obstetric anal sphincter injury. We run a weekly perineal clinic for the follow up of all women sustaining obstetric anal sphincter injury which includes performing anorectal testing, both endoanal ultrasound and anorectal manometry. There will be opportunities for the post holder to obtain skills in performing and interpreting these tests.
The candidate would be provided with a template timetable. This will predominantly be in research but will include the MDT, Perineal Clinic and a labour ward session as per regional guidance for out of programme training.
The department runs on obstetric anal sphincter injury repair. The post holder will be expected to help in the organisation and delivery of these training days which occur twice per year.
The successful candidate will also work with the SPR (middle grade) on call rota in both obstetrics and gynaecology, currently working a full shift rota of up to 48 hours per week on average. This includes prospective cover for the annual/study leave of colleagues.
