Job summary
These are 12-month posts to start in March 2024 to provide full time clinical care, although there may be some opportunity to incorporate some education/ simulation teaching responsibilities for several months as part of one of these roles depending on the candidate's experience. These are senior roles, ideally suited for anyone looking to gain additional clinical experience in tertiary neonatal medicine. These are not a recognised training posts but may be taken up as an OOPE and would also be suitable for paediatric CCT holders to gain additional experience in neonatology prior to taking up a general paediatric consultant post in a local neonatal unit.
The post will involve working on the tier 2 medical rota providing clinical care across the neonatal unit, the low dependency unit and postnatal wards at Liverpool Women's Hospital in addition to the neonatal surgical unit at Alder Hey Children's Hospital. In addition to these posts we have a 9 person ST4+ trainee rota, a 9 person ST 1-3 trainee rota and a 25 person ANNP rota split into two tiers with some ANNPs specialising in low dependency care. These rotas are worked alongside each other to maintain an appropriate skill mix on all shifts. The aim of these clinical fellow posts is to support the medical rota with senior experience across all areas of the Liverpool Neonatal Partnership including the neonatal surgical unit at Alder Hey. Previous neonatal surgical experience would be desirable for applicants to these posts
Main duties of the job
Clinical fellows would be expected to attend deliveries of complex/ preterm babies, provide management in intensive care/ high dependency care including for those requiring cardiovascular and respiratory support, perform common neonatal procedures and lead other staff members in the management of these patients. There is opportunity to attend specialty and follow up clinics and provide antenatal counselling within these posts. At times they would be expected to support the staff who provide care in the low dependency unit and on the postnatal ward as part of senior reviews of patients.
This rota is compliant with the new deal working time directives. The salary will be as per the Specialty registrar pay scale with annual leave and study leave requirements as per the trust policies.
