Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a trainee seeking to develop as a clinical academic, with an interest in global maternal and fetal health. The role will enable experience working with a large research group focussed on key challenges in global maternal health, conducting research in Malawi, Zambia and Uganda.
Main duties of the job
The candidate will have the opportunity to participate in research within the groups areas of interest including:
- Improving quality of maternity care in resource constrained settings
- Clinical trials and implementation science
- Understanding maternal and perinatal infections
The candidate would be expected to work at ST3+ level (2 in 20 rota) either on Tier 2 (ST3-5) or Tier 3 (ST6-7+) depending on their level of experience. The candidate would be provided with a template timetable. This can include sessions in general gynaecology and antenatal clinics, theatre sessions, as well as delivery suite and gynaecology emergency department. The following is a provisional time table. Depending on the successful candidates training needs and existing skill set there will be opportunity to complete Advanced Training Skills Modules subject to negotiation and the candidates existing skill set. We expect candidates to be enthusiastic well motivated and good communicators.
Educational supervision will be provided with regular meetings (based on the RCOG training format) to provide support and feedback. Progression would be tailored on an individual basis and the candidate would be expected to fully participate in the annual appraisal process. We will encourage the successful candidate to formulate a SMART long term plan for their professional development and will endeavour to support them in achieving the required competencies.
