This is an exciting opportunity to join the Psychological Medicine team at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre. This is a 12-month fixed-term post, funded by The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre Charity. The Centre is seeking a motivated, sensitive and compassionate counsellor to provide high-quality, evidence-based psychological care to patients affected by cancer. The post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary team , delivering NICE Level 3 psychological assessment and therapeutic interventions in line with BACP standards.The post holder will work on a one-on-one basis counselling patients with a cancer diagnosis, receiving referrals from the specialist Counsellor. Theywill provide psychological assessment and therapeutic interventions in accordance with Level 3 guidelines. Using a counselling approach for patients referred to the Psychological Medicine Service at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre.
This is a part-time role of 8 hours per week, working over 2 days (4 hours per day)
Main duties of the job
- Accept referrals via agreed service protocols, evaluate and make decisions on suitability of new referrals and refer back to the specialist counsellor when necessary.
- Maintain and keep appropriate records of all clinical activity and complete all service requirements relating to data collection. Use information technology as appropriate within direct clinical work and treatmentinterventions.
- To plan, monitor and evaluate own work, using clinical outcome assessments, as a regular feature of the work. Ensuring a timely, responsive and appropriate service for patients so treatment delivery remains accessible and convenient.
- Recognise when patients may need additional support - working closely with other team members to ensure appropriate step-up and step-down arrangements are in place to maintain a stepped care approach.
- Identify when a patient is not ready to engage in the counselling process and managing them in an empathic and planned manner.
- Undertake risk assessment and management to include suicide risk, suicidal ideation, suicidal intent and safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults. Making appropriate referrals as necessary and/or working in conjunction with other external agencies.
- Provide support to student counsellors when required or in the absence of the specialist counsellor.
