Deputy Ward Manager based at The Clinical Decisions Unit, Clatterbridge Cancer Centre
We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate for a Deputy Ward Manager who will be based in the Clinical Decisions Unit (CDU) CCCL. This position is for a Band 6 at 37.5 hours per week. Working pattern is based on working 3 or 4 Long days over the full week, so will include weekends.
The individual should have extensive oncology experience and ideally should have completed the SACT UKONs Passport and be able to demonstrate good leadership skills. You would also be required to deputise in the absence of the Ward Manager and complete managerial duties.
We are looking to recruit highly motivated individuals with excellent organisation, communication skills and ability to lead and drive change. The post holder will be supporting staff and patients within an outpatient environment and play a major role in supporting the ward manager in future nursing developments.

- The Clinical Decisions Unit is a fast paced clinical environment caring for patients who are experiencing side effects as a result of their cancer treatment. These treatments include Chemotherapy, Immunotherapy and Radiotherapy. We have several avenues through which patients can access CDU, one of them being our Triage/Hotline-24 hour telephone triage service. As a Band 6 Deputy Ward Manager, you will be required to be the team leader/Coordinator in each of these areas alternatively. You will have the responsibility to lead the team and your decision making will contribute to the flow through CDU and ensuring patients are kept safe and attended to in a timely manner according to CCC policies/protocols.

The Network Services Directorate delivers outpatient Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatments (SACT) and supportive therapies for both solid tumours and haemato oncology malignancies across a six day service and in a number of areas, to include:

- Responsible for safely assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care to patients attending the department
- The safe administration of treatments to patients who require outpatient SACT and supportive therapies
- To work autonomously and seek collaborative relationships with others across and within professional boundaries.
- To offer the patient and families advice to manage toxicitys and symptoms related to their treatment and support to address their holistic needs.
- The post holder will supervise junior staff and participate in the teaching and assessing of pre and post registration students
- To offer advice, support and education to clinical teams across the trust where appropriate
- Act as a link nurse in key nursing roles to ensure the safe delivery of the SACT service
- This post holder will provide clinical leadership to support the delivery of evidence based patient centered care
- Act as a role model demonstrating high standards of care and providing clinical leadership to others
- They will take responsibility for the Quality Management of their designated areas with a specific emphasis on Infection Control, Leading a Nurse Led Service and Patient Safety.
- Manage local resolution of patient concerns and complaints
- Escalate risk/issues and effectively action to minimise future risks
- To develop patient pathways and be responsible for developing the SACT nursing service
- To participate in quality improvement initiatives within the division.
- Demonstrate competencies in clinical skills such as venepuncture, cannulation, urinary catheterisation, CVAD care, artificial airway management, care of NG/PEG, NG insertion, ILS. If competencies in all of these areas can not be demonstrated, a willingness to learn must be shown.
