Job summary

The Research and Innovation centre at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre has a exciting post for 1 Band 6 Research Practitioners. The Primary aim of this post is to bring about greater access for research in order to provide a unique and enviable framework to enhance delivery of world class research.

They will embark on a programme of dual training for both Oncology and Haematology systemic anticancer treatments. They must be motivated and willing to undergo training in the Haematology and chemotherapy fields.

As an Research practitioner you will be responsible for supporting the Advanced Research Nurse and Matron in ensuring that our service users' needs are met through the delivery of high-quality care. As a centre of excellence, you will offer a person-centred approach to their independence and well-being.

You will have a dual base location at CCC wirral and CCC Liverpool

As we deliver treatments in sector hubs and clinics across the Wirral and Liverpool, there will an element of cross cover required during training and once training has been completed.

Main duties of the job

Research Practitioner

Candidates must be a NMC level one registered nurse for 2 years, hold chemotherapy certificate or Ukons passport and ideally have research experience.The post holder will work alongside thelead band 7 Advanced Research Nurse and research team in order to co-ordinate a portfolio of commercial , non - commercial and Experimental Cancer Medicine oncology clinical trials. The role will include identifying patients through MDT's/screening notes; collecting data; interviewing; supporting, treating and monitoring patients in accordance to ethically approved protocols. The R & I directorate is a busy environment and working to deadlines with frequent interruption is the norm. Ability to work under pressure, pay close attention to detail and organise the priority of own workload is absolutely essential. About us

The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust is one of the UK's leading providers of non-surgical cancer treatment, caring for a population of 2.4 million people across Cheshire & Merseyside, North Wales, the Isle of Man and parts of Lancashire.Our flagship specialist cancer hospital was opened in central Liverpool in June 2020, supported by our hospital on the Clatterbridge Health Park in Wirral providing outpatient cancer treatment and supportive care and our radiotherapy treatment centre on the Aintree Hospital site.

Job responsibilities

  • Responsibility to ensure all nursing care is carried out as determined by the trials protocol and individual patients treatment plan.
  • Responsibility to ensure SACT treatment assessments are regularly updated reflecting evidence based practice.
  • Responsibly for ensuring eligibility is determined and signed of by the principle investigator.
  • Responsibility to ensure all assessment have been complete and reported prior to randomization of a patient
  • Responsibility to provide accurate information to PI,sponsors and patients and relatives regarding treatment and side effects.
  • Responsibility to ensures accurate data is transcribe on to patient case report forms in line with protocol time frames
  • Responsibility to ensure that all patient information is collected and documented accurately and in real time, during a span of duty.
  • Responsibility to work as an autonomous practitioner as well as part of a team.
  • Responsibility to provide accurate reports both verbally and electronically.
  • Responsibility to ensure that all nursing policies, procedures and protocols within the clinical environment are adhered to.
  • Responsibility for the safe handling and administration of all SACT, supportive treatments and blood products according to policy.
  • Responsibility to work across the Directorates sector hub model to ensure safe staffing levels.
  • Responsibility to ensure that all radiation guidelines are adhered to.
