A full-time post has come up in the Radiology Department for to support the PACS/RIS team. This is a small but very busy department especially since the opening of he Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, Liverpool. This will be even busier with the opening of CCC-Paddington so these are exciting times for this team.
Ideally the candidate will have a passion for Information Technology Systems and be familiar with the PACS and RIS systems used at CCC. In-house training will be provided by this busy team so hopefully the successful candidate will be a quick learner and be able to work at a fast pace.
Main duties of the job
Job Summary
- To provide support to the Imaging Systems Manager and the PACS/RIS Team Leader in managing the Picture Archiving Communication System (PACS) and associated administrative duties including housekeeping.
- To assist in the day to day organisation and management of the Radiology Information Services (RIS).
- To provide the central point for the Trust for the secure transfer of digital images in and out of the Trust in compliance with Information Governance Policies and GDPR.
- To promote and maintain high standards of data held on RIS /PACS systems.
- To send PACS images to external outsourcing providers and maintain records.
- Provide first-line support for users of RIS and PACS, responding to issues logged with the local IT Helpdesk, such as re-setting passwords in 'real-time' when users cannot access these systems, e.g. Clinicians seeing patients in clinic.
- To provide imaging for MDT's

The PACS team is a small friendly and busy team which is part of the Radiology department. At present the team support CCC-Liverpool, CCC-Wirral and CCC-Aintree and soon to cover CCC-Paddington in Liverpool but the job is based on the Wirral site. We have recently recruited to a PACS deputy post to help with the increasing and varied work load.

- Provide and receive complex or sensitive information with a range of staff from other CCC departments & external trusts.
- Maintain relationships with own and other departments.
- Communicate with all users of the service in order to optimise processes for transfer of image data.
- Communicate with members of the team to ensure that the service is working efficiently.
Knowledge, Training & Experience
- In addition to IT skills and knowledge equivalent to ECDL, the post requires knowledge of various aspects of RIS, PACS and Electronic Patient Record systems, as listed in Dimensions e.g. HSS RIS, Stats module within CRIS, Background table within CRIS (to set up new users).
- Training provided by PACS/RIS Manager, PACS/RIS Team Leader, IT Trainers, and system suppliers.
- Require knowledge of anatomy, diagnostic modalities and clinical imaging terminology to ensure that data uploaded to PACS is accurate and relevant.
Analytical and Judgement Skills
- Selection of imaging data required for image upload.
- Check information to identify data errors.
- Review information to resolve problems for staff eg: reset passwords, remove images from PACS
Planning and Organisational Skills
- Plan own workload according to demands, and adjust plans to accommodate urgent requests from CCC and other Trusts.
Physical Skills
- Input data information into the Imaging systems with accuracy.
Responsibility for Patient and Client Care
- Respond to queries from patients and relatives regarding their images. Assess whether enquiries should be redirected elsewhere if this is more appropriate.
- Provide a Trust-wide non-clinical support service for provision of images required for patient care.
- Report all incidents and ensure incident forms are completed.
- Comply with Health and Safety instructions and policies.

- Propose and implement changes in procedures to bring about improvements in the service.
- Assess changes that need to be made in order to comply with Trust standards for Information Governance.
