Job summary
This senior role in breast imaging combines working autonomously as an Enhanced Practitioner using specialist skills in stereotactic procedures (core biopsies, vacuum- assisted biopsies +/- vacuum-assisted excisions) together with maintaining mammography skills, working with the team in both the static units based at the Mermaid Centre in the Royal Cornwallhospital and working on the mobile units located in various locations within the community.
There is an opportunity for the applicant to complete mammography interpretation training to join the existing team of seven film readers in the unit.
As a senior member of the breast imaging team, you will be a role model and will lead the team working alongside you in your clinics and will work closely with the Radiologists and the Consultant Radiographer.
You will support the Lead Radiographer and wider management team in the day-to-day leadership and management of the department.
You will promote evidence based best practice together with high standards of clinical x-ray guided interventional procedures and breast imaging to encourage and motivate your peers to achieve their potential. You will be a source of expert clinical opinion in stereotactic breast interventional procedures.
Main duties of the job
To liaise with Radiologists, the admin and clerical team, nursing team and all other modality team leaders to ensure optimum service provision
To ensure professional and technical standards are maintained at all times, regularly review practice, in accordance with local and national policies and guidelines where appropriate.
To work as part of a team providing flexible service delivery as required.
Demonstrate high degree of clinical expertise, knowledge and experience in breast imaging, offering advice and support to radiographers, clinicians and other health care professionals.
To supervise and provide clinical expertise to radiographers, APs, CISWs and undergraduate students when necessary.
To support the team leader in absence management, recruitment and other HR duties where appropriate.
To spend at least 50% of working time carrying out advanced clinical practice
To assist in managing the breast imaging department, effectively prioritising workload and ensuring the highest standards of patient care.
Actively pursue a programme of CPD and maintain a personal record of professional development, suitable for registration purposes as required
Support other staff to meet their CPD requirements.
Promote an environment that fosters innovation and service improvement.
Maintain standards as set out in the QA Guidelines for Breast Cancer Screening Radiology
Participate in evening and weekend work as required by the needs of the service
