The Pharmacy Technical Services Unit (PTSU) at the Royal Cornwall Hospital is delighted to be able to offer a full time position in our senior team. As the Lead Pharmacy Technician for Operations you will help in ensuring that the unit remains operational and production runs smoothly responding to changing demands. Your significant Technical services experience will mean that you are able to lead on, improve and develop technical and complex processes whilst maintaining GMP and other regulatory requirements. You will also be involved in all aspects of the sterile manufacturing processes
As Operations Lead you will seek to improve and ensure delivery of an efficient production service in support of our varied service users. Co-ordinating the day to day activities associated with all aspects of Pharmacy Technical Services a flexible approach to the role is essential. Maintaining competencies in all aspects of production support and sterile manufacturing processes (radiopharmacy, cytotoxics and aseptic production) and assistance with the delivery of training in support of the Lead Training Technician.
Main duties of the job
To be responsible for provision of services that meets the needs of patients.
To assist in the planning, management and support of all staff within the Pharmacy Technical Services Unit thus ensuring the safe handling, use and disposal of radioactive materials, cytotoxic drugs and non-hazardous injectable medicines.
You will maintain competencies as a validated dispenser for the manufacture of a range of sterile products, support the manufacture of radiopharmaceutical products and assist in the requirements of providing a non-sterile manufacturing service. You will also provide direct supervision of a team of technicians and pharmacy assistants helping to ensure services are provided in a safe, efficient and timely manner supporting training and assessment activities as required.
Complete training and maintain competence in specialist PIPC (Pre- and In-Process Checking), and PAAP (Product Approval Accreditation Program) being responsible for checking and approving batches of medicines prepared under the Medicines Act 1968 Section 10 exemption and support production release activities associated with MS licensed areas.
Along with the Chief Pharmacy Technician and the Lead Training Technician you will help support and manage actions associated with both internal and external audits supporting the completion of corrective action plans resulting from such audits.
Participate in Trust Performance and Development Reviews, Recruitment and performance and Attendance management.
