Colorectal Specialist Nurse Practitioner

Job summary

The Colorectal Specialist Nurse Practitioner will be a highly competent, visible, and experienced autonomous practitioner, capable of functioning effectively across the four key role domains (expert practice; leadership and consultancy; education and training; service development, research, and evaluation). They will use their expert knowledge and skills to assist the colorectal consultant nurse to lead the 2ww service

Main duties of the job

As part of the multi-disciplinary team, and under the supervision of colorectal consultant nurse and/or consultant, the post-holder will utilise their specialist knowledge and skills to:

Conduct autonomous clinics to assess new patients referred by GP and follow up colorectal consultant patients

Risk review patient on pending list utlising Fit test where appropriate

Assist the colorectal consultant nurse to set up and lead/manage new nurse led services

Consent patients as part of 2 step consent process for procedures, such as, 2ww or suspected cancer

Present at large polyp and colorectal MDT and other specialty MDTs when a cancer is identified

Represent the 2ww service in best interest meetings

assist the consultant nurse in virtual consultant clinics for 2ww service

act as investigating officer for the governance lead when required assess, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate treatments and interventions of colorectal 2ww patients within the parameters
