Job summary

As part of the team, is responsible for the accurate delivery of radiotherapy and supervision of patients through the pre-treatment and treatment processes

Responsible for maintaining the highest professional standards in the care and treatment of patients undergoing radiotherapy in line with nationally and locally agreed standards

Responsible, under the guidance of a senior therapeutic radiographer, for the accurate interpretation of treatment plans and prescriptions.

Responsible for the safe use of highly complex and expensive equipment

Responsible, whilst accountable to a senior member of staff, for ensuring that recently qualified staff, and students are trained appropriately and follow departmental protocols

Main duties of the job

Maintains effective communication with all members of the review, pre-treatment, treatment and radiotherapy physics teams to ensure the efficient transfer of patients from clinic to treatment and to ensure that any problems arising during a course of treatment are resolved efficiently and effectively.

Ensures the highest standard of technical practice is maintained at all times.

Maintains an appointment system to avoid undue delay to patients whilst maintaining the highest standards of care and comfort for patients at all times, offering empathy and reassurance as required.

Ensures that all patients have received appropriate information and advice and have consented to treatment.

Reports and records without delay any difficulties or concerns regarding patients to the pre-treatment lead / senior in charge of the treatment unit.

Reports and records without delay any error, near miss or adverse incident in a patient's pre-treatment session / course of treatment or any unusual treatment reaction to the pre-treatment lead / senior in charge of the treatment unit.

Ensures the safe use of expensive and highly complex equipment.

Performs and records daily quality assurance checks on the equipment in accordance with departmental policy.

Reports and records without delay any malfunction or fault with the equipment to the pre-treatment lead / radiographer in charge of the treatment unit.

We are expanding our friendly, dynamic Radiotherapy team and are looking for therapeutic radiographers with a professional manner and high personal standards and drive. The department has a wide bore CT scanner with contrast and 4DCT, two beam matched TrueBeam linear accelerators with cone beam CT, 6DoF couches, 4D CBCT & electron facilities, and a superficial treatment unit. In addition to this, the service runs radiographer-led on-treatment review and follow up clinics. We are looking for someone to work within the pre-treatment and treatment teams during this exciting time of continued service development across all areas.

Applicants should have a high level of technical competence, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be self-motivated and hardworking with a positive can-do attitude. The ability to remain calm under pressure and to integrate well with the existing teams are essential attributes of any applicants.
