Job summary
This role is primarily based within the mortuary & bereavement service at the Truro site but may also include working at the West Cornwall Hospital site. The successful candidate will be trained & will be expected to undertake all activities within the mortuary when their training has been completed. Duties includes the receipting, storing & release of decease within our care, performing post-mortems on the 900 cases/year requested by the Coroner & the preparation of decease for family viewings. Due to the nature of the job & the interactions with a wide group of staff & personnel, excellent communication skills are essential.
Main duties of the job
To provide patients and RCHT with the highest standard of mortuary services by working as part of the mortuary team. Specific duties to be trained in include:
Assisting in the preparation of cadavers for post mortem examination.
Assisting the pathologist during the post-mortem procedures.
Reconstruction of the cadavers after a post-mortem & prior to release from the Mortuary.
Preparation of cadavers for viewing by the relatives.
Participating in the training of APT's, newly appointed mortuary staff and any other healthcare professionals working in the mortuary.
Applying and observe all RCHT health and safety, security and confidentiality policies.
Undertaking specialised mortuary work or techniques as requested.
Taking responsibility for all patient valuables and belongings until the body is released from the mortuary.
