Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join this small and very experienced specialist team in the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly ME/CFS Service.

Applications are invited for the post of Specialty Doctor in Myalgic encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome ME/CFS at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro, Cornwall. The service supports patient as detailed in the NICE guidelines (2021) for the care of patients with ME/CFS.

The ME/CFS Service provides diagnosis, medical management, and rehabilitation, symptom management and psychological adjustment of this group of adult patients. The Adult service supports patients in transition from local and out of county paediatric services. The service is commissioned to work across the Cornwall Peninsular, working closely with other health and social care providers.

Main duties of the job

Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the diagnosis and management of ME/CFS patients and those that meet the guideline of possible or probable ME/CFS

To share with colleagues the responsibility for the day-to-day management of ME/CFS patients.

The practitioner will provide specialist medical services to patients referred directly to the service, as directed by the Specialty Lead and or the Electronic Referrals Service.

To appropriately access systems for day-to-day management, requesting of bloods and further tests as deemed necessary.

To continue to support research and best practice in this and related conditions.

The clinician will receive supervision from a named consultant, in line with the skills and experience of the person appointed.

The scope of the role will be adjusted to the skills and experience of the clinician appointed.

Attendance at weekly MDT meetings and 6 weekly team clinical governance meetings is a valued and important part of the post.

Teaching and training of junior staff and medical students where applicable.

To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and Audit.
