Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team of Paediatric Hearing Screeners to provide a Hearing Screening Service across Cornwall.

We are looking for someone with experience of working with children in a Health environment, who will receive full training for all aspects of the screening process. A knowledge of audiology would be an advantage but not essential.

We test the hearing of neonates, pre-school children and school age children, in a variety of venues.

The post is based at the Royal Cornwall Hospital but you will regularly cover clinics throughout Cornwall with supervision and support provided by the Clinical Lead at Royal Cornwall Hospital's NHS Trust and the Newborn Hearing Screening Manager.

Main duties of the job

To undertake hearing screening of babies on the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and in patient's homes in the Community, complying with National protocols.

To provide hearing assessment for school age children in the County, and screening for school entry children.

To assess the hearing of the Paediatric population in Acute and Community clinics.

To accurately record data onto National and Local databases, producing andanalysing reports.

To provide support and training for Health Visitors and other healthprofessionals.

Essential

  • Competent IT skills
  • If you are not a registered Nurse or Health Visitor you are required to complete the Level 3 Diploma for Health Screeners within 3 years of the role.
  • Certificate of Competency from the National Screening Committee (will be awarded following 6 month specialised training in house)

Desirable

  • Possession of NNEB or equivalent Childcare qualification in the care of young children.
  • Level 3 Diploma for Health Screeners qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience of working with children in a clinical setting
  • Experience of handling newborn babies in a clinical setting

Desirable

  • Audiology experience
  • Screening experience

Practical & Intellectual Skill

Essential

  • Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Articulate and able to communicate effectively
  • Baby handling skills and able to communicate with young children.
