Job summary
If you are a compassionate and caring individual, with a strong desire to maximise the quality of life for people in the community with an artificial feeding tube, then this could be the role you are looking for!
Our small team is dedicated to providing expert dietetic support & advice to adults with enteral tubes in situ across the beautiful county of Cornwall. Within the role there is the opportunity to obtain competencies for care of feeding tubes and stoma sites, enabling a practical level of dietetic input.
Main duties of the job
The adult HEF dietetic caseload comprises of around 135 patients, with a wide range of clinical conditions. You will be responsible for providing a responsive & competent dietetic service, working closely with multi-disciplinary teams as and where possible, to ensure a holistic, collaborative, and all-encompassing approach.
You will be expected to complete face to face, telephone or virtual assessments to gather nutritional and other information to enable you to create suitable feeding regimens appropriate for that individual patient. Monitoring progress and making relevant adjustments depending on clinical presentation but also considering practicalities and other factors is key to ensuring a successful feeding care plan and achieving a happy service user!
For all of the caseload we aim to provide a streamlined service that best meets peninsula and local HEF dietetic standards. Communication between various healthcare professionals both within the community and acute services is essential to provide our service, thus is a key skill required for the role.
Liaising with the contracted feed company via the online registration system to place and monitor feed/equipment orders as well as linking directly with feed company nurses is an important part of the daily tasks.
We work closely with the gastrostomy specialist dietitian and have the opportunity to work towards obtaining competencies with gastrostomy tubes and stoma sites, thus extending our dietetic role.
About us
The adult HEF RD team consists of a band 6 peer dietitian, the Band 7 team lead and a band 4 Assistant Practitioner. There is additional expert support provided by the gastrostomy specialist dietitian. We are a small friendly team with a wealth of experience and knowledge to help support and guide colleagues new to HEF in Cornwall. We currently work remotely due to essential work being completed in our office building. This means we link mostly through Microsoft Teams, which can be isolating at times. However, our work involves us being out & about much of the time, and so the comfort of being back in your own home in between can be beneficial. There is the potential of 'hot desking' at other offices around the county as/if required. We are also integral to different MDT specialist groups so there is plenty of support and expertise to call on as and when we require.
Whatever area of dietetics you are active in, we all share the same objective of working hard to maintain the wellness of our clients; striving to help achieve or maintain quality of life. HEF provides the opportunity to really make a difference to patients' lives in the community & we would welcome like minded colleagues to join us to help further improve the dietetic experience we provide.
