The Pharmacy Department at Royal Cornwall Hospital is delighted to be able to offer this exciting position in our Digital Medicines team. The award winning RCHT Digital Medicines team is one of the national leaders in digital pharmacy systems and has successfully rolled out our EPMA solution across Cornwall in a unique partnership with our sister Trust.

The Trust is about to embark on the implementation of its new Electronic Patient Record (EPR). This challenging programme is the largest clinical system transformation programme the Trust has undertaken and is key to the Trust's Strategy and aims to fundamentally transform ways of working.

This role will be the strategic lead for the Digital Medicines programme across Cornwall, forming strong partnerships with other Trusts, external organisations and the ICS. They will lead on the promotion, innovation and transformation of clinical and operational services across all health professions where medicines are involved. The Digital Medicines team will be working closely with other clinical teams and Cornwall IT Services to implement a new EPR across Cornwall over the next 2 years.

Main duties of the job

As Chief Pharmacy Information Officer (CPIO) you will take a strategic digital leadership role supporting the Trust's strategic objectives and medicines management strategies to facilitate the delivery of excellent, safe patient care through the digitalisation of services and service delivery. The CPIO is predominately a transformational role, pioneering new ways of working and the "art of the possible". They will lead on the promotion, innovation and transformation of clinical and operational services through the use of information and technologies across medical, nursing, midwifery, allied health professionals' workforces to support and improve:

  • Patient outcomes and efficiency.
  • Integrated care across partners and commissioners.
  • Digital empowerment of patients and citizens.

As the Trust's CPIO, you will play a pivotal role in the implementation, ongoing support, maintenance, and development of the Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration (EPMA) functionality of the Trust's Electronic Patient Record (EPR). You will lead on ensuring the safety of the electronic prescribing solutions utilised within the Trust. This is a highly specialised, technical, and clinical role requiring in depth knowledge and understanding of the configuration of both the EPR system and its interaction with all other prescribing and pharmacy Trust digital systems, and clinical pathways.

Essential

  • oMasters level degree in Pharmacy, or equivalent
  • oCurrent registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • oPostgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy, or equivalent experience
  • oCompleted or in progress- MSc/Diploma Digital Health Leadership (NHS Digital Academy)/ Health Informatics or related subject or equivalent experience

Desirable

  • oNHS Digital Clinical Risk Management training
  • oManagement or leadership training/qualification
  • oPrince2 Project Management qualification or equivalent
  • Membership of RPS and/or Faculty for clinical informaticists

Experience

Essential

  • oExtensive post registration hospital pharmacy experience
  • oExperienced clinical pharmacist with expertise of working with clinical informatics and managing teams
  • oExperience of conducting and managing audit or research projects, and assessing quality of services, including critical appraisal of current evidence base.
  • oPrevious management / team leader experience with responsibility for pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and other associated staff groups including staff development, managing performance and recruitment
  • oExperience in delivering change management and quality improvement relating to digital systems
  • oExperience in developing business cases for service development, including monitoring of outputs
  • oWriting and implementing SOPs, policies, and guidelines
  • oProven track record of ability to influence and challenge conflicting views and opinions effectively whilst delivering first class support service.
