Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the Stroke and Neurology Occupational Therapy team based at Royal Cornwall Hospital.

We are looking for an Occupational Therapy Technician to provide assessment, rehabilitation and discharge planning service to patients at RCHT who have had a stroke. The role will be based on Phoenix ward.

This is a part-time post working 22.5 hours per week with weekend cover on a rota basis.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for contributing to the delivery of excellent care, rehabilitation and providing support to therapists. Case load will be allocated and indirectly supervised by the highly skilled team of therapists on the stroke unit.

Patient management will include responsibility for the delivery of care including delegated assessments, implementation, evaluation and progression of rehabilitation programs, assisting discharge planning, liaison with patients, family, members of the MDT and external agencies. You will also need to have good time management prioritisation skills, and flexibility.

You will need experience within a care setting, as well as an NVQ Level IIl in Health Care (or equivalent). You will ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. You will have basic IT skills as the service operates with Electronic records, and be able to work without direct supervision within the bounds of the Rehabilitation Technician role.

You will be integral to the team and have a key role in its delivery and assisting Clinical leads in Service delivery. Post holders will be expected to complete the competencies frameworks associated with the post. You will have support from the Senior clinicians, the Clinical Lead, with access to supervision and in-service training opportunities.

Desirable

  • Evidence of recent study, e.g. Anatomy and Physiology ITEC, Access to Occupational Therapy course etc.

Experience

Essential

  • Comprehensive experience of working in an acute healthcare setting.
  • Experience of working with elderly, injured/disabled people
  • experience of working as a Therapy or Nursing Assistant/rehab technician

Desirable

  • experience of working as a Therapy technician/assistant Experience of managing an independent caseload
  • Experience of working in the NHS
