Job summary

Applications are invited for a Trust Rregistrar (ST3-ST5 Equivalent) in Haematology at the Royal Cornwall Hospital. This is fixed term for 6 months with a possibility of extending to 12 months depending on candidate choice. Experience in Haematology would be preferable.

The Trust provides all specialist medical services in Cornwall except for certain complex surgery (cardiothoracic and neurosurgery are provided at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust (UHPNT), 58 miles from Truro). Highly specialist regional or NSCAG commissioned services, for example paediatric oncology and paroxysmal nocturnal haemoglobinuria, are provided in Bristol (178 miles from Truro).

Outpatient and other services are also provided at a number of our community-based NHS locations around the county. We are particularly proud of the newly established Community Assessment and Treatment Units (CATUs), another primary and secondary care partnership model that allows management of frail patients closer to their homes

Main duties of the job

  • Provide clinical care for patients with haematological disorders in the outpatient clinic and inpatient wards
  • Attend ward rounds and MDT meetings.
  • Fulfill the duties of the weekly timetable.
  • Participate in Clinical Audit and support department research activity.
  • Participate in departmental Education and Training sessions and contribute to the training of junior medical staff;
  • Contribute to the teaching of medical students, ward nursing team and CNS team.
