Respiratory Nurse Specialist - Asthma, COPD & Tobacco Dependency
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Respiratory Department for a fixed term 12 month contract. We are looking to recruit an experienced, dynamic, highly motivated and pro-active nurse, to join our team of specialist nurses.
Main duties of the job
The Asthma & COPD Specialist Nursing Team have responsibility for reviewing patients admitted with an exacerbation of Asthma or COPD, providing education and support for the patient, giving management recommendations to the ward based MDT, and ensuring referral to community services/ GP practice on discharge. You will be expected to contribute to the National Asthma & COPD audit including targeting areas requiring improvement to ensure that our service remains relevant, up to date, and in line with our patients needs and evidence based practice.
The team has expanded its remit to develop an acute hospital based treating tobacco dependency service, in line with the ambitions of the NHS Long-term Plan. Supporting patients to be smoke free during an admission and helping them to stop smoking stop is a critical part of care for our respiratory patients. All team members will have responsibility for treating tobacco dependence as part of patient interactions and supporting our tobacco dependency advisers.

Essential
- RN registered with NMC.
- Completion or commitment to undertake relevant extended role scope competencies.
Desirable
- Assessing / mentoring qualification
- Holds a diploma or degree level qualification in respiratory care, ie Asthma and /or COPD course.
Experience
Essential
- Substantive post registration experience.
- Experience in caring for respiratory patients including those with Asthma, COPD.
- Experience of supervising students.
Desirable
- Experience of teaching and education
- Experience of nurse led clinics.
- Experience in treating tobacco dependency
Skills
Desirable
- Spirometry Course [ARTP or Similar].
- Oxygen prescribing.
- Spirometry competent.
