Job summary

We are currently looking for a SSD Medical Device Technician to work in our busy Sterile Services Department. The department provides an important service within the Hospital, decontaminating and sterilizing surgical instruments for the Operating Theatres/Wards, Departments and external customers. The department is fully accredited to European Standards and works within a Quality System. The department has various shifts, which cover the 24-hour day.

Main duties of the job

To manage the process of applying GS1 identifiers to medical devices for use within operating theatres, GP surgeries, wards, and clinics in conjunction with the track and trace system. To assist in the management of records in the track and trace database. e.g. developments, limited life. To work to the quality management system, adding new sets and updating existing sets of medical devices, ensuring all necessary supporting documentation is complete. To operate the laser marker, and CAD/marking software. To manage the maintenance and reporting of faults and troubleshooting of the laser marker. To contribute to the development of the departments standard operating procedures and work instructions in accordance with quality management systems. To operate the various decontamination electronic systems for product release, validation, locating and non-conforming of medical devices. To liaise with suppliers to process the repair of medical devices. To operate the various decontamination electronic systems for product release, validation, locating and non-conforming of medical devices. To update raw materials and medical devices stock levels with the Production Controller and Instrument Manager for stock control. To place stock orders for the Sterile Services Department. To communicate effectively and work within a multi-disciplinary team. To prioritise and plan own workload and work with minimal managerial direction and to participate at daily management meetings.

  • NVQ level 3, City & Guilds, Btec in Decontamination or IDSC Qualification or equivalent.

Desirable

  • DTM Cert HTM01-01
  • Level 4 Leadership & management

Experience

Essential

  • Extensive experience working in a Sterile Services department
  • Experience of effective communication skills when dealing with staff and User /Customers
  • Experience of Supervising Staff
  • Experience of managing performance to achieve delivery targets
  • Experience of using CAD software

Desirable

  • NVQ level 4 or equivalent experience
