Healthcare Assistant (Endoscopy)

Job summary

We are looking to recruit enthusiastic, committed and motivated Health Care Assistants with excellent communication and leadership skills to join our endoscopy team.

We have posts on both South Tyneside and Sunderland Royal endoscopy unit, you will have a base site on appointment, however cross site working will be an expectation. Shift patterns are Monday to Friday with some evening and weekend shifts as required, you will also take part in an out of hours on call.

This is a band 2 post increasing to band 3 on successful completion of the Care Certificate and consolidated learning period.

Main duties of the job

You will have the ability to work within a multi-professional team and assist in ensuring the delivery of the highest standards of care. You will contribute towards developments in nursing within the service. You will be joining a highly skilled and committed team who will give their full support in your training and development.

The successful candidates will be expected to develop their knowledge and skills to deliver an enhanced HCA role.

You will support the delivery of care to patients before, during and after endoscopic procedures, acting as an assistant to the Registered nurse who is co-ordinating the care of patients and participate in the efficient functioning of the decontamination area.

The enhanced clinical element of the role is to assist the Registered Nurse, acting as the second Assistant during the endoscopic procedure.

  • Numeracy & Literacy Skills to Level 2 or equivalent.
  • IT / keyboard and computer Skills.
  • Basic understanding of health and safety requirements in a patient environment.
  • General understanding of confidentiality requirements in a health care setting.
  • Willing to work towards completion of a Care certificate following commencing in post.

Desirable

  • Competent in decontamination of endoscopes and/or working in Endoscopy Treatment room.
  • Working towards or gained relevant Level 3 qualification for example NVQ 3 and or/Level 3 in Health and Social Care.
  • Care certificate.

Physical Skills

  • Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.
