Job summary

The Division of Theatres and Critical Care are seeking to Appoint a flexible Sterile Services Equipment Lead to develop a service that provides advice and support to Theatres and other service users across STSFT. This is an exciting opportunity to develop internal relationships and establish new ways of working to deliver high-quality care.

You will have sound knowledge and experience of decontamination processes, and a thorough understanding of user requirements, particularly operating theatres. Therefore, Applications are encouraged from individuals with a background in Sterile Services or Theatres.

You will identify areas for development within the Service, dealing with instrument availability issues and implementing an instrument replacement programme.

This role is varied and at times challenging, working across a wide range of issues. You will demonstrate the values of the Organisation, aligning with our Excellence in all that we do ethos.

Main duties of the job

Main duties in the role include:

Liaise and develop relationships with departments, ensuring theyre aware of trays and equipment that is out of commission.

Actively-work with teams across Theatres to implement strategies to implement a surgical instrument replacement programme with support of the SSD Manager and the Training and Quality Support Managers.

Ensure instrument repairs are actioned in a timely manner to ensure service continuity.

Support the Department in implementing the Trusts green plan relating to re-usable drapes and equipment.

This Post would provide an excellent development opportunity for someone who wants experience of how a large Sterile Services department operates and to further-develop their career. You will be supported in your own professional development by the Sterile Services Manager.

You will be required to work 37.5 hours per week, across five days (Monday-Friday), 8.00am-4.00pm, with the flexibility to amend working hours to ensure support is also available across all shifts.

Desirable

  • Experience of ISO 13485:2016 audit and the requirements.
  • Ability to identify future equipment needs of the Department.
  • Experience of supervising staff.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Numeracy and Literacy skills to Functional Level 1 or equivalent.
  • NVQ L3 in relevant subject or equivalent qualification/experience.

Desirable

  • Willingness to undertake and pass the SSD supervisor/manager course within 12 months of taking-up Post.
  • Previous experience of a training/supervisory role.
  • Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement or equivalent.
